WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH MICRONEEDLING?

What’s the deal with microneedling?

Is the hype real? In my opinion, yes it is. This is not just something the Kardashian’s tried that’s going to be forgotten before the end of summer. This is a treatment that I stand behind and 100% support and promote. Why? Well, because I’ve seen the results. I’ve gotten the texts and feedback from clients telling me they are blown away at what is happening to their skin.

I think most estheticians would agree with me when I say that I like consistent treatments. What I mean by that is I love a good, results-oriented new treatment or peel, but not at the cost of inconsistent results. If there’s a new peel or expensive facial machine where I hear mixed reviews, I’m already halfway checked out. It doesn’t matter to me how much science is behind the treatment or peel; if client responses are inconsistent, I am not comfortable promoting or performing it.
Every single person that walks through my treatment room has such different skin, different responses to products and touch, health history and genetic makeup that we, as estheticians, can never get too comfortable or overly confident. To me, it’s always best to assume the worst and proceed with caution.
When I first became an esthetician, I was trained under the care of a doctor as a “medical esthetician”. I had worked in the plastic surgery field for a few years, so my initial training was on strong, results-oriented facial treatments. I did not learn “fluff” and “pampering” until much later on when I transitioned to an upscale boutique day spa, where I was free and able to combine both pamperings with results-oriented treatments. So with that being said, my roots are with stronger, results-oriented facial treatments. It’s what I love. I get bored doing the same fluffy facial all day, every day. When microneedling became a thing, I was instantly intrigued by it. Something I especially loved was the consistent feedback I heard from happy clients who tried the treatment. Very rarely over the years have I heard anything negative about it at all.

COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY

Ok, so let’s get into microneedling and its benefits. Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy (I prefer this name). It does exactly that; it induces collagen. The production of collagen drastically reduces in our late twenties and continues to take a dip every year after that. But does our body still make collagen? Yes, it does. It just makes significantly less as we age. It needs a little help to continue doing its job. Enter microneedling.

SO WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?

Microneedling is a procedure with a device covered in tiny, shiny microneedles used to stamp into the outer layers of your skin. The holes cause a micro-injury which is therapeutic for the skin, prompting collagen stimulation, filling in fine lines, wrinkles, plumping the skin and contributing significantly to a younger look. Microneedling works miracles for sunken scars on the face, discoloration, melasma, hyperpigmentation, and pore size. It can also be used on any part of the body for stretch marks, scarring, and wrinkles. With the use of stamping stem cell serum into the tiny, controlled injury, followed by a hyaluronic, collagen peptide and stem cell sheet mask, this treatment is the quickest, most effective results-oriented treatment for the skin on the market today.

THE TREATMENT PLAN

The treatment takes about 30-45 minutes total. A pre-treatment exfoliation with the use of microdermabrasion or dermaplaning is included to remove the outer layer of dead skin cells, which can obstruct product absorption if not removed. My recommendation is 3 treatments back-to-back, 2-4 weeks apart. After that, you may continue once a month, taking breaks every few months, or you can alternate with monthly facials.

Needless to say we love microneedling at Lavender and Lemons Skincare. We foresee this treatment being around for a long time. If you’ve been on the fence about trying this treatment, we would encourage you to pull the trigger and go for it!

KC
