BRIGHTEN UP :: PEELING SEASON HAS ARRIVED!

Due to it being the end of summer here in Southern California, the demand for all services/products for hyperpigmentation is HIGH. Almost daily I’ve got texts, emails, calls coming through asking me what can be done to lighten up those annoying and pesky dark spots. The sunshine in SoCal rarely hides. We get beautiful blue skies and a lot of vitamin D all year round, but with that comes sun damage and dark spots.

TWO KINDS OF PIGMENT

There are two kinds of pigment. One is caused by sun exposure, and the other is caused by hormones, but comes out with sun exposure. The two types are very different, and can be confusing as to which one you are dealing with. You either have Hyper pigmentation (freckles), or melasma (pregnancy mask). Freckles tend to lighten up as your summer beach days turn into indoor activities. Some can be stubborn, but a little low grade retinol, spf, and deep exfoliation can lighten those up pretty quickly and efficiently. Melasma is more of a challenge. Melasma comes from a few different things, but the core control for it is our hormones. The sun does bring it out but it does not cause it.

THE MELASMA STRUGGLE IS REAL

I personally know the struggle with melasma, because I have a pretty severe case of it. I’ll never forget the day an aesthetic doctor told me it looked like I had dirt on my face…. ouch. Recently, I’ve discovered that even when we cover our face, and use spf diligently, if our body is exposed to the sun for an extended period of time, a hormone is released and triggers melasma to pop up again. Sucks, I know. I mean how frustrating is that?

THERE’S GOOD NEWS!

The good news is I’ve literally tried everything, and done A LOT of research. First I want to preface that you have to find your own personal balance. Yes, you need to cover up, but I also encourage clients to enjoy life. I refuse to stay indoors and layered up. I live a few blocks from the beach in Huntington Beach and there’s no way in heck I am missing out on that blessing. So within reason, I stay covered. I wear hats, spf, and use an umbrella when I am getting direct sunlight for an extended period of time.

IT TAKES WORK

I’ve become religious with my home skin care routine and facial treatments. I know what you’re thinking…. I own a spa, and have unlimited access to facial treatments and product. Yes, that is sort of true. But I also want to help. So bare with me, and try to trust.

GLO SKIN BEAUTY :: RETINOL + VITAMIN C PEEL

I want to get deeper into the topic of pigmentation later, but today I want to highlight this incredible little gem of a peel from Glo Skin Beauty, the Retinol + Vitamin C peel. It did such wonders for my pigment and discoloration after just one treatment. Is my pigment gone? I wish! But it did lighten up and because of what I do, I understand and have realistic expectations.

The benefits of this peel go way below the surface. This unique and versatile professional form of exfoliation provides a safe and effective way to achieve skin sloughing. We have to slough off the dead layer of skin also known as the epidermis. Your outer layer of skin is literally made up of a layer of dead skin cells, just sitting, collecting, and causing all sorts of skin issues. The combination of retinol and vitamin c drastically reduces dark spots, and significantly lightens melasma.

***Disclaimer :: This peel is not the cure for melasma. You must balance your hormones and protect your skin daily. For more on how to balance hormones click here.

Other benefits include reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, smaller pores, reduction of acne scars and smoother texture and tone.

Overall we love this peel at LaL! We recommend 2-4 treatments 4-8 weeks apart. For booking and price click here.
